Get up!
There’s a story in the Bible about the healing pool of Bethesda in which a disabled crippled man had been going there 38 years to try to get healed when the angel stirred the waters. He could never get into the pool on time so he stayed unhealed all that time. Jesus came to him and asked him, “Do you want to get well?” What a question to ask this man who had been trying for 38 years. The man then gave plenty of excuses. “I have no one to help me get into the pool.” In other words, poor me, I have no one to do it for me. But Jesus simply said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured, he picked up his mat and walked.
There are so many lessons here! We sometimes get comfortable in our misery. Don’t let the reason for your pain become an excuse to stay that way the rest of your life. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and expecting someone else to do it for you. Get up and just do it! And when you do remember to stop and clean up the mess you made when you were there. Do you want to become well is the question. Are you really serious about getting over your problems? Sometimes what seems to be the obvious isn’t the solution. The solution is stop awfulizing your situation and just take care of it. Just do it! Make amends and get your life straightened out.

Prayer: Lord, help me to realize how paralyzed I have become over my situations and to make the choice to do something about them.
