Cheap Grace vs Costly Grace

Cheap Grace vs. Costly Grace

The cost of discipleship is costly.

Our grace came as a costly price, paid for by Jesus’s suffering death and triumphant resurrection.  Although it is a free gift, it still is costly. Jesus is the foundation we must build our lives on. Jesus is a solid unshakable foundation which helps you endure life’s challenges.  Any other foundation, like works or just going through the motions without giving your all, will eventually just come crushing down.

The Bible proposes the question of who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost.  And it also says you cannot be my disciple if you don’t hate everyone else in comparison to me. We are not just students but a follower of Jesus, one who applies what he has learned. We are changed by Jesus and committed to the message of Jesus.  As part of the cost of discipleship we are to suffer as a good soldier.  Do you think boot camp is easy?  Who would want to go to war without this training though? Being unprepared is asking for disaster. A good soldier aims to please the one who enlisted him. He completes the task according to the rules, is aware of the opposition, and pays attention, not allowing distractions to detour him. A follower invests time and energy in what they are doing. If you are going to do something, do it right. My mother always told me that. That is exactly why I do not sew.  She would make me tare out stitches and redo what I just did without taking care and she made me finish the job I started.  My stitches were too tight or too loose depending on my many moods and it would have taken practice, determination and perseverance to complete the job.  I’ve counted the cost, and I’m not interested. But being a disciple though is a choice that has benefits too great to pass up under any circumstances:

1.       We’re blessed with eternal life with a God who loves us

2.       We will be fruitful and prosper with joy and peace and an abundant life is available to us.

3.       Our labor of love will not be in vain.

The alternative is the choice of momentary pleasure but a life filled with discord and a very dim eternity in hell, a place of everlasting torment.

                                             THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

Prayer: Thank you for your great gift to all of mankind. Help me to remember the cost of this great gift.
